Seeing Stars

We can certainly agree that our four main characters were/are brilliant and bright stars in their own right!  But during the show’s run, there have been more stars walk through Blanche’s, Dorothy’s, Rose’s and Sophia’s home than you can see when you look up at the nighttime sky.  Okay, slight exaggeration, but not by much!  So much talent and greatness have graced The Golden Girls throughout its seven year run that I could write a book!

The amount of talent and the number of decorated stars that pranced through the sitcom’s run was and still is insurmountable!  Some of the actors or actresses that visited the girls or in some way appeared alongside them were just starting out and were not house hold names at the time they were a guest on the popular show.  Others were much more established and had already become stars in their own right!

For example, George Clooney!  Before he got his major breakthrough as an actor on the once popular show ER, he was a young detective, along side Joseph Campanella, on a stake out in Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sofia’s kitchen, hoping to capture a couple of jewel thieves that had moved in right next door to the girls!

Mario Lopez is another.  Before he became A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell and Saved by the Bell: The college years, he was Mario, a students of Dorothy’s who faced deportation after it was discovered that he was in America illegally.  Nowadays, being most known as A.C. Slater, Lopez still guest stars on various TV shows, had a reality show on MTV, and hosts the X Factor and various other jobs.

Sonny Bono and Lyle Waggoner guest starred together and appeared as themselves in the episode called Mrs. George Devereaux in season 6.  Sonny of course, as I am sure you know, was one half of the Sonny and Cher duo, before going into politics in 1988 when he ran and was elected Mayor of Palm Springs, California.  “Bono was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1994 to represent California’s 44th congressional district” (Wikipedia).  Lyle, most famous for his time on the Carol Bernett show and also playing Steve Trevor on the TV show Wonder Woman.

Dick Van Dyke, another guest, played Ken, top Miami lawyer/circus clown wanna be!  Dick Van Dyke was not only Mary Poppins’ love interest, he was Dorothy’s too!  Mr. Van Dyke has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame; he also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild.  This man, sings, dances, acts, produces AND writes!

These stars are so bright; I might have to put my shades on!

I am surprised there is no mention of Quentin Tarantino as an Elvis impersonator at Sophia’s wedding
