Madea and Her Precious Bits of Wisdom

I actually love Madea. Tyler Perry’s far from feminine alter-ego has graced more than half of his movies.  Each one of her appearances has been filled with laughs and life lessons. Some may find Madea and Tyler Perry movies to be quite preachy.  It seems the lead character hammers viewers with so many ideas. Even with the funny and sassy delivery, critics have pointed out how Madea bombards you with all sorts of ideas that can make you feel you’ve listened  to a 2-hour sermon.

As for me, I think there are a lot of things that can be learned from watching Madea. Here are just three of the lessons I most remember from watching the program:

Madea always champions self-reliance.

Whether it is giving advice to a young person with a baby  or someone struggling with the economy, Madea always reminds people to take responsibility for their actions. There are just no excuses that are good enough for Madea.  Even if circumstances are bleak,  there are  ways to get through them. Moreover, I  learned that for Madea, depending on others to get you out of a rut is just as bad as assigning blame to other people. She always suggests that people  pick themselves up and get to work. Helping oneself is always a better activity than finding fault.

Madea tells us that everything has a reason.

With Madea, everything that happens to a person is  to improve him or her. She leaves nothing to chance and/or luck,  Depending on these things does not propel someone into action. If something bad happens, that person should take it as an opportunity to improve and be better in life. If something good happens and a person does not act on it, then nothing will come out of it. This lesson is closely related to the first one I mentioned.  We only have ourselves to count on.  Whatever happens, we reap the rewards or suffer the consequences ourselves.

Madea tells people to learn to let go and when to do it.

In Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea advices the housewife who is obsessed with extracting revenge from her husband to just to let it go. Otherwise, you will  get stuck and not see the good things in life. In the movie, the housewife did not see the  other man who liked her because she was so focused on getting back at her ex. I learned that letting go is a key to living a full life.

Everyone loves Madea, everywhere you go you hear her words of wisdom from the young as well as the old. She has turned peoples tears into laughter where their is less worry filled with more joy. Her character brings life into the souls of so many people even those who see life as being difficult. The economy does not stop people from buying her films. Tyler Perry can relate to all of us, the rich as well as the poor because he has a from rags to riches story that gives hope to so many of us.

  4. Madrea through Tyler Perry is a ministry. There has not been one time that I have come away after sharing time with Madrea with her straight to the point and comedic antics wading through and rightfully dividing between the two.Remembering things Tyler, shared and has gone through to get where he is now more spiritually sound. Their are a few people who just don’t get it and it’s to their loss. Coming from my families Madrea” envy and jealousy is a form of flattery. Smile at it and keep gettin’ up”and so you have. Keep me and other lifted with you sweet, gentle and compassionate spirit. May peace, love joy and continual and abundant blessings be unto you.
