Kevin Fisher’s arrival in Genoa City sparked Y&R fan’s attention for two reasons: another bad boy to fill the streets of Genoa City and to add spice to its younger generation . It didn’t take long before the fans realized Kevin was a misunderstood victim that brought trouble to everything he touched because he could not break free of his abusive past.
The son of Gloria and Tom Fisher, Kevin was physically and mentally abused by Terrible Tom growing up. He resented his older half brother, Michael Baldwin, for leaving him behind when he ran away to escape the tortured abuse of his stepfather, and that resentment turned into bitterness as Kevin grew older.
His early days ranged from preying on young women in a teen chat room to destruction of property to attempted murder. As life began closing in on Kevin, he showed up at Michael’s apartment expecting help. His downward spiral continued landing him in jail, where he was beaten within an inch of his life. Yet, he gained his brother’s support in the end, a factor that stirred this fan’s compassion and turned bad boy Kevin into a misunderstood good guy.
Fans around the globe began to see a glimpse of the real Kevin when he confided his crimes to Lauren Fenmore. The fallout of Paul Williams’ suspicions and confrontation sent him running away to Detroit where he relived his childhood beatings and memories of when his father locked him in a closet as a young child. His tortured past revealed his character’s vulnerability and that sparked widespread compassion among Y&R’s fan base.
After trying to kill Colleen Carlton, he made restitution by saving her life when Jana Hawks locked she and Kevin in a freezer and set it on fire. It was an uphill climb from there. He became best friends with Daniel Romalotti and their sidekick antics brought lots of great fan moments to the show. Together they ran Alex out of town, who was attempted to blackmail them from their past of attacking Lily Winters years before. They saved Katherine’s emerald diamond ring, a family heirloom by breaking into a pawnshop with the help of Amber Moore, only two things among many that made the fans love the pair. He stood by Daniel during his ordeal after Cassie’s death, saved Jana’s life and befriended Amber , who later helped Kevin regain his sanity after his adventures as the Chipmunk. Lastly, he went above and beyond the duties of friendship to give Phyllis a much needed alibi, at the expense of lying to his District Attorney brother, Michael.
Over the years Kevin found favor among some of Genoa City’s elite, such as Lauren Fenmore and Katherine Chancellor. It was through the compassionate souls of these two socialites that fans everywhere began to see the misunderstood child behind his bad boy persona. Yet, Kevin still had a lot to overcome. More often than not he fell victim to old habits when things went wrong in his life and ended by breaking, or bending the law to get himself out of disastrous situations. Surprisingly, he landed on his feet more times than he failed, which elated this fan, who has grown to love Kevin in spite of his past actions.
I don’t know about you, but I think Kevin is one of the good guys, who has a great future ahead of him and has a lot to offer the show. Personally, I would love to see more of his on screen presence. Speak out if you agree.
Watching him grow and overcome life’s obstacles gives us a bird’s-eye view into Kevin’s troubled life. Will his last brush with bending the law by transferring funds to keep from losing his home make or break him? Keep watching! Only time will tell.
