On May 31, 1930 in San Francisco Clinton Eastwood, Jr. was born. He weighed in at 11 lbs. 6 ozs and this earned him the nickname “Samson” from his nurses in the hospital.
Eastwood’s father, Clinton Eastwood, Sr., was a migrant worker and steelworker. His mother Margaret Ruth Eastwood (nee Runner) was a factory worker. Completing the family was Clint’s younger sister Jeanne. Because of the father’s work the family moved frequently finally settling in Piedmont California.
Clint was a student at Piedmont Junior High School and planned to go on to the Piedmont High School. However, before he enrolled he tore up the turf on their sports field riding his bike and was asked not to attend their institution.
Instead Clint attended Oakland Technical High School. There he was encouraged by the drama teachers to participate in plays at the school, but he was not interested.
Clint Eastwood served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Korean War. He was stationed at Fort Ord in California working as a lifeguard. While he was working at Fort Ord Universal International Studio was filming there. Eastwood caught the attention of an assistant who brought him to the attention of the series director.
Universal Studios employed Eastwood even though they thought he was amateurish and questioned his acting skills, his stiff manner and his habit of hissing his lines through his teeth.
Clint Eastwood played a number of bit parts until his supporting role in “Rawhide”. This is when he rose to prominence as an actor. Following were the “Dollars” trilogy when he played a man with no name and rose to fame. Clint Eastwood has had many successful years as an actor, director, producer and composer.
Another of Clint Eastwood’s interests is politics. Recently he was a speaker in prime time at the Republican National Convention in support of Mitt Romney.
He registered as a Republican in 1952 and supported both Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. However, he later criticized Nixon on Watergate and the Vietnam War.
Over the years Eastwood has described himself as a moderate and a libertarian. In 2009 he said he was registered as a Libertarian.
He has supported Democrats as well as Republicans. He is a supporter of pro-choice, same sex marriage, gun legislation and the Equal Rights Amendment for Women.
In 1986 Clint Eastwood was elected mayor of Carmel By The Sea, his adopted hometown. He served for two years. In 2001 Eastwood was appointed to the California State Park and Recreation Commission and he was reappointed in 2004. In 2004 he was appointed to the California Film Commission. He was also a spokesperson for Take Pride In America which promotes taking responsibility for national, cultural and historic resources and is an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Clint Eastwood married Maggie Johnson December 19, 1953. They had two children Kyle Eastwood and Alison Eastwood; The two finalized their divorce in May 1984.
While he and Maggie were separated he had an affair with dancer Roxanne Tunis and they had one child Kimber Tunis. It was not until 1996 that he publicly acknowledged this child.
His second marriage on March 31, 1996 was to Dina Ruiz and they have one daughter Morgan Eastwood.
