Beauregard (Bo) Brady and Hope Williams Brady have been signature characters on the daytime soap opera, Days of Our Lives, since 1983. The couple is considered as iconic as General Hospital’s Luke and Laura Spencer. Much like with real celebrity couples, fans refer to them as Bope.
Their love story began when bad boy Bo was made jealous by Hope’s interest in his brother, Roman. Hope and Bo began to fall in love while working on various dangerous situations, after it was believed that Roman had died.
When Hope became 18, she and Bo attempted to make love. However, Doug stopped them and subsequently suffered a heart attack. Hope agreed to never see Bo again. Bo hid from Hope that his brother Roman was still alive. To protect Hope from the situation, Bo pushed her away. Believing that Bo didn’t love her any more, Hope began seeing sleazy politician, Larry Welch, whom she agreed to marry.
Taking a cue from legendary movie, The Graduate, Bo tried to stop his lady love from marrying politician Larry Welch. After they rode off on Bo’s motorcycle, however, Hope was kidnapped and forced to marry Larry after he threatened her family. Hope subsequently spent much of 1984‘s summer trapped in this loveless union. However, she kept from consummating the marriage, claiming a pregnancy with Bo’s child. Ironically, Hope was still a virgin, since her and Bo’s attempts to make love were always interrupted.
Hope met Bo in secret while married to Larry. Eventually, they finally made love in a plantation in New Orleans. Shortly thereafter, Hope escaped from Larry’s control.
The couple’s romance has been augmented by their many robust adventures. Their royal English wedding in 1985 was one of the largest spectacles ever on daytime television. They went on to become the parents of Shawn-Douglas Brady, Zack Brady and Ciara Brady.
They have faced many challenges as a couple. Hope suffered an identity crisis when brainwashed by Stefano DiMera so that she believed herself to be a princess. Bo also struggled to find his daughter with Billie Reed, Georgia. They believed her to be stillborn, until she was revealed as teenage bad girl, Chelsea Brady.
Zack, their middle child, was in a hit and run accident caused by Chelsea. Later taken off life support, this caused Hope to blame Bo for Chelsea’s actions and coming to her defense. At this point, she began an affair with Patrick.
When Hope learned that Bo was not involved in Chelsea’s disappearance, an attempt at reconciliation was expected. But when new evidence was found exonerating Patrick, Hope was not happy that Bo had pit her against Patrick.
Hope found that she was pregnant, and believed the child to be Patrick’s. Despite this, the super couple only grew closer. Patrick realized that Hope and Bo were still in love and kidnapped her. Bo rescued Hope right at the time that her water broke. He helped deliver the baby girl on December 29, 2006. Patrick revealed that he had bribed the doctor into changing the paternity test results and that Bo was really the father.
Bo faced a health crisis in 2008 and Chelsea donated a part of her pancreas. Bo surprised Hope by renewing their vows with family and friends.
This romantic fictional pairing has been so successful, that they were awarded the America’s Favorite Super couple award at 2002′s Emmys. They were also the images for Avon’s Blue Rush perfume campaign.
