A Special 2013 Christmas Episode

What if you were given the opportunity to travel back in time, write your own Gunsmoke Christmas episode and all cast and crew were asked to commit to the moment? What have you always wanted to see in a scene? Or perhaps it’s not a what but a who?

What if you could have anyone star and take the spotlight? How about add a bold twist to your favorite storyline or perhaps create an entirely new one?

We want to give you the opportunity to express yourself – paint your own picture, sit in the driver’s seat! If you were in charge, what would that moment look like? Let’s pause our holiday shopping stress for a second and have a little fun, eh?

Use comments below and let your imagination take over. We only ask that whether it’s a scene, episode or a storyline, you connect it with Christmas.

Don’t take it too seriously and be sure to check out other fans’ responses.

  1. Fred Priebe says:

I really don’t know that anything could replace P.S. Murray Christmas with Jack Elam and Jody Foster, plus others. I cry every time I watch it.

  2. Debbie says:

I want an episode that Matt actually kisses Miss Kitty and shows her some love!

  3. Margie Geary says:

At first I was going to say I want to see Matt kiss Miss Kate. but somebody already said that so I would like to see when Chester said goodbye and left Dodge City. also finally find out how Cheaters leg got so stiff.

  4. Manuel Grinage says:

    Imagine, if you will…

The late Burl Ives starring as an itinerant preacher dressed as Santa, driving a sleigh loaded with presents for children of The Indian Nations who attend his missionary. But when he draws near the next stop on his route he can see black smoke rising and to his horror the camp has been burned to the ground. All the grown men killed and the women and children nowhere to be seen. There are plenty of fresh tracks and signs to follow in the snow, but more snow is on the way

  5. Vanessa Allison says:

I would like to see a big ole salon Christmas Party and Matt asking Kitty to marry him and gives her a big sloppy kiss. She says yes and they marry right then and there!! Love the show to this day.

  6. Santa Comes To Dodge

It’s Christmas time in Dodge and Santa is on his way!

The week before Christmas, a heavily laden stagecoach arrives with a jolly old man aboard. He takes a room at the Dodge House and Matt, Chester AND Festus help him move crate after crate into his room.

Asking a few questions (as only Chester and Festus would) they learn that he is visiting relatives for Christmas.

Later, in a chance meeting with one of the relatives, Matt learns they have never heard of this visitor.

Day after day, this jolly man walks around Dodge, giving small gifts to children he chances upon. Each time, he hints that a large Christmas feast will be had on Christmas eve.

Rumors abound throughout Dodge about this man. A stranger on his way to Abilene mentions that the man looks very familiar to him. He thinks his father, an outlaw, may have had dealings with this man in some shady ventures. This heightens the rumor mill and conjecture is that the crates are filled with money from bank robberies, etc.

Sam acts strangely, too, seeming to step in to defend the gentleman whenever he hears any rumors.

Matt follows up on the man, sending a wire with his description and learns that the man may indeed be the notorious Nick Aless, who ran the Aless gang in Witchita, 20 years ago. He confronts the man, who admits he is, indeed, the outlaw. However, he insists that he has retired and is gravely ill.

Shortly afterward, Chester and Festus clamor to find out what Matt has learned after confronting the man. Matt hands them posters and tells them to put them up all over town. The posters announce a grand Christmas feast for anyone in and around Dodge City, to be held at the Longbranch Saloon.

The night of the Feast, everyone is surprised by the arrival of Nick, dressed to the hilt as Santa. Chester and Festus and Matt bring in crate after crate and Nick begins handing out gifts. Singing and Christmas cheer abound until Nick suddenly falls on the ground, unconscious.

Later, in Doc’s office, we learn the rest of the story. Nick Aless, repentant and terminally ill, wanted to “go out with a bang”. He arranged the partty and the gifts, using the remainder of his life-long, ill-gotten gains for the good of the Dodge City community.

  7. guy gardner says:

if john meston wrote it, a kindly old man would be delivering presents to an orphanage in the middle of the night and some redneck would think he was a prowler and would kill him. you folks who have only seen the color episodes haven’t seen the real gunsmoke.
